One of the biggest obstacles in coming to camp is money! You're probably already thinking about how to earn some extra money to help pay for camp. There are lots of ways you can earn money to save towards camp. I know you probably have some creative ideas taking shape already. But just in case you feel overwhelmed I want to get those wheels turning!
The first idea I want to tell you about is a GARAGE SALE. Get together with the other kids or even teen counselors from your church or in your area who need to earn money for camp and do a garage sale together. This is a big job but it's worth it once you send in that registrtion! Here are a few steps to get you started.
1) Ask your parents, children's pastor/director or pastor or even a teen counselor to help organize the sale.
2) Pick a date. Then decide where to have it. Will it be at your church, at a home?
3) Get a permit from the city.
4) Go through your room and get rid of all the things you no longer use or need. Make sure you clear it with your parents!
5) Get others involved! Ask friends, family, other people at church to donate items to your sale, make sure to tell them all the money you earn will go towards camp registration.
6) Make signs to help people find your sale.
7) Price items and set up the day before if possible. Bulk pricing is easiest so make a box of toys for $.25, make all clothing $.50, and so on, then price the bigger items separately. You'll need a master price list for the bulk items and a calculator at the cash table. Have an adult get about $100 for change. It's good to have $20s, $10s, $5s, $1s and quarters on hand.
8) On the day of your sale, start early and have fun!
If you get a garage sale organized let me know! I'd love to hear how it went.
